Advanced Feature Parameters

The dimensions and features section provides the ability to capture Advanced Feature parameters, by selecting a captured feature from the DriveWorks task pane and then clicking the Show Advanced Feature Parameters link.

Driving advanced feature dimensions increases model generation time. Where possible capture feature dimensions (distances, numbers and angles) as dimensions rather than an advanced feature parameter.

Capture Advanced Feature Parameters

Capturing Advanced Feature Parameters

To capture Advanced Feature Parameters a feature must already be captured (see Dimensions and Features):

  1. Open the model which has the feature already captured.
  2. Select the Dimensions and Features button in the DriveWorks Task Pane.
  3. Select the captured feature from the features folder in the DriveWorks task pane or from the SOLIDWORKS feature manager.
  4. If the selected feature does have Advanced Feature Parameters available the Show Advanced Feature Parameters link will appear above the parameter selection buttons.
  5. Click the Show Advanced Feature Parameters link
  6. Check the box next to each advanced feature parameter that needs to be controlled.
  7. Click Update after all selections have been made.
The Advanced Feature Parameters window may be minimized with only the first advanced feature parameter on display. The window can be resized by dragging the window up into the captured dimensions and features window.

Uncapturing Advanced Features

To uncapture an advanced feature parameter:

  1. Open the model which has the advanced feature parameter captured.
  2. Select the Dimensions and Features button in the DriveWorks Task Pane.
  3. Select the captured feature from the features folder in the DriveWorks task pane or from the SOLIDWORKS feature manager.Click the Show Advanced Feature Parameters link
  4. Uncheck the box next to each advanced feature parameter that needs to be uncaptured.
  5. Click Update.

Advanced Feature Parameters give more control over the SOLIDWORKS models being driven. We can capture components of parts, such as the K-Factor value or the Reverse Direction check box. This video shows driving a helix to control a thread on a screw and driving the number of revolutions in that helix.
