Business Objects

What are business objects?

Business objects are structured data, usually representing an object, concept, or person in the real world.

An account, contact, organization or purchase order are all example of entities that could be represented with a business object.

A business object is defined by a collection of attributes that describe the data that is being represented by the business object.

Business object attributes

A business object attribute is a single data field for a business object.

They include data validation settings such as data type and maximum and minimum values. For example, a Length attribute may specify that the expected value should be numeric, and the value stored must be a between a defined maximum and minimum value.

These settings ensure valid data is always stored.

Business object records

When a user creates data for a business object, this is known as a business object record.

A record represents a single instance of a business object, for example a single employee, or a single quotation.

The attributes values for an employee would contain the actual email address of that employee e.g. jsmith@acme.com.

Business object package

A business object package is a collection of business objects.

A business object package contains one or more business objects and the attributes that define them, as well as the relations that link those business objects together.

Business object relations

Relations help to define the relationships between different business objects.

Business object relations can be one-to-one, one-to-many or many-to-many.

For example, one account may be related to many contacts.
