How To: Diagnose Project Issues Using DriveWorks Generation Report

DriveWorks produces reports for two key stages of the specification process:

The reports give valuable information that assist with diagnosing issues and checking the status of a specification

When testing or diagnosing a DriveWorks implementation we recommend setting the reporting level to Verbose.

Please see SOLIDWORKS Settings - Reporting Level for more information.

Return this setting to Minimal once testing is complete.

The Reporting level applied at the time each report was produced is displayed in the header of each report.

Generation Report

The Generation reports are presented immediately after manual generation (not using Autopilot) has taken place. Once the final model has been generated in SOLIDWORKS the Report Results dialog will be displayed. To view a report:

  1. Double click the model name from the list.

To close the Report Results dialog, Click OK

The Generation reports can also be viewed from the specification explorer. To open the reports:

  1. Select Specification Explorer from the task list of DriveWorks Administrator
  2. Select the specification to view from the specification list
  3. Click the Other Reports button from the specification explorer command bar.
  4. Locate the report for the model to be viewed, expand the node and double click the report listed.

The Generation report will open in the DriveWorks Report Viewer.

The report details all actions performed on the model. Typically this will be a listing of all parameters associated to or captured against the model and the creation of additional file formats.

The report lists each parameter being driven by DriveWorks, and is divided into re-sizable columns:

  • Description - Describes the action performed on each parameter
  • Target - Describes the master model or drawing the actions were performed on
  • Class - Classifies the action
  • Time - Is the time taken to perform the action
  • Status - Indicates if the action was successful, has any warnings or has any errors

The Status column of the specification report gives a good indication that something may require attention.

Status Green - DriveWorks was able to accomplish all actions successfully.

Status Orange - Indicates minor warnings that may require your attention. This could be changing a configuration to a SpeedPak configuration, DriveWorks has to switch to its parent configuration to drive it, so a warning about this is shown. Another example would be when a model requires generating that DriveWorks thinks has already been generated.

Status Red - Indicates DriveWorks was unable to carry out the action and investigation is required. This could be a dimension parameter with the result #VALUE when DriveWorks clearly expects a number.

The time taken to perform an action is useful in speeding up generation, for instance if it is taking 20 seconds to generate any additional file formats, this can be investigated to see if they really are needed for each specification.

Checking the Generation Report

To check the Generation Report for values that were driven into a model, follow the steps to open the report above and:

  1. Locate the parameter with the issue from the Description column of the report
  2. Check this result with the generated model
