How To: Rename A Master Model

This topic explains how to rename a master model and maintain all the captured information and any rules that have been applied.

Rename The Top Level Model

When a Top Level Model is added to a Project it is given a component name.

This allows more than one top level model to be driven independently of each other.

The component name is the name of the top level model; An instance number is appended after the first model has been added.

When a top level model is renamed, the component name will be the original name of the model, this can be changed.

To rename the top level model:

  1. Ensure the model to be renamed is not open in SOLIDWORKS (close SOLIDWORKS to be safe) and close all DriveWorks applications that could have the Group open that the model has been captured into.
  2. Use Windows File Explorer to locate the model and rename the model with the new name you wish to use.
  3. Open DriveWorks Data Management and login to the Group that contains the captured model.
  4. Select Captured Information from the Task List.
The model that has been renamed will be listed as missing (the reference will be in a red font).
  5. Right click the missing model and select Change Location.
  6. In the Browse window change the file type drop down to All Files (this could also be Assembly Files or Part Files).
This will currently be set to the name and file type of the original model.
  7. Browse to and select the model that has the new name, click Open.
  8. The model will be updated with the new name and all captured parameters and rules will be maintained in DriveWorks Administrator.
The Component Name will not change when viewed in Model Rules in DriveWorks Administrator.
