DriveWorks User Interface

The DriveWorks User interface consists of the following main areas:

  • Task Bar - Access Groups and DriveWorks User Settings.
  • Command Bar - The DriveWorks User Command Bar dynamically changes to present the appropriate commands for the task selected from the Task explorer. The Refresh command is displayed for each task. This will refresh the main window to display latest news items (when in DriveWorks Today) or latest specifications made (when in the Specification Explorer).
  • Task Explorer - Navigate to the required Task.
  • Work Area - The Work Area adapts to the current selected task. This is where you define all the elements that make up a Project.
  • Notification Area - This relays information about the environment (the installed DriveWorks version, the open Group and the logged on user. Statistics about the selected Task are also displayed.

DriveWorks Today

When connected to the internet, DriveWorks Today will display dynamic community content containing useful links to information, news and events relating to DriveWorks.

Recent List

All recently opened Groups are displayed, for quick access, in the Recent list.

Unwanted Groups can be cleared by:

  1. Select DriveWorks Today from the DriveWorks Task Explorer.
  2. Right Click on any item in the recent list.

  3. Select Clear all.
    Note all Recent Lists will be cleared. This includes:
    • From the DriveWorks Today Window.
    • From the Open Group Wizard.

DriveWorks Help

The DriveWorks Help Task provides immediate guidance for new users.

It also has useful links to the online Help file and resources (some may require an active subscription and login to the DriveWorks website)

Stage 1: Specification

Specification Explorer

The Specification Explorer is where new specifications are created, and existing ones viewed and modified.

Personal Web Edition

Personal Web Edition provides local access to create Specifications in your browser.

Stage 2: DriveApps

DriveApps provide out of the box functionality to enhance and accelerate your use of DriveWorks.

DriveApps are set up using DriveWorks Administrator.

Quick Launch DriveWorks User

DriveWorks user can launch straight into a Specification, DriveApp or Kiosk Mode by creating a Windows shortcut on the desktop.

Into a Specification

To Quick Launch into a Specification

Create a Quick Launch Shortcut:

  1. Right click on the Windows Desktop.
  2. Select New> Shortcut.
  3. Browse to the location of the DriveWorks User executable

    This will be C:\Program Files\DriveWorks\<Version>\DriveWorksUser.exe

  4. Click Next and enter a name, click Finish
  5. Right click on the new shortcut and select Properties.
  6. In the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field and add the following to the end of the Target (after the quote mark):

    /Group:MyGroup /Username:UserName /Password:Password /CreateSpecification:ProjectName

    Where:

    • MyGroup is the name of the Group that holds the Project the Specification is to be started
    • UserName is the name of a valid user in the Group
    • Password is the password for the user in the Group
    • ProjectName is the name of a valid project the user has access to begin a Specification for

Into a DriveApp

To Quick Launch into a DriveApp

Create a Quick Launch Shortcut:

  1. Right click on the Windows Desktop.
  2. Select New> Shortcut.
  3. Browse to the location of the DriveWorks User executable

    This will be C:\Program Files\DriveWorks\<Version>\DriveWorksUser.exe

  4. Click Next and enter a name, click Finish
  5. Right click on the new shortcut and select Properties.
  6. In the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field and add the following to the end of the Target (after the quote mark):

    /Group:MyGroup /Username:UserName /Password:Password /OpenDriveApp:CPQ

    Where:

    • MyGroup is the name of the Group that holds the Project the Specification is to be started
    • UserName is the name of a valid user in the Group
    • Password is the password for the user in the Group
    • CPQ is the name of a valid running DriveApp type
      The DriveApp type is the name (not alias) of the DriveApp.

      When more than one of the same DriveApp type are running, the quick launch will launch the first in the list.

Kiosk Mode

Kiosk Mode gives DriveWorks User the ability to run a Specification full screen without any DriveWorks UI (header bar, command bar, task list and notification area).

Kiosk Mode must be enabled for DriveWorks User, see Settings Kiosk Mode.

To open a Specification or DriveApp in Kiosk Mode:

  1. Follow the steps for creating a Quick Launch shortcut into a Specification or DriveApp.
  2. Add /Kiosk to the end of the path created for the Target.

    For example the Target field will be as following for starting a Specification in Kiosk Mode:

    "C:\Program Files\DriveWorks\<Version>\DriveWorksUser.exe" /Group:MyGroup /Username:UserName /Password:Password /CreateSpecification:ProjectName /Kiosk

    And for starting a DriveApp in Kiosk Mode:

    "C:\Program Files\DriveWorks\<Version>\DriveWorksUser.exe" /Group:MyGroup /Username:UserName /Password:Password /OpenDriveApp:CPQ /Kiosk

DriveWorks User Checklist

Check you have the following in place before specifying with DriveWorks User:

  1. Installation and Licensing

    Ensure all pre-requisites are followed, the module is installed on the required machine and licensed accordingly.

    See Installing and Licensing DriveWorks User (above) for links.

  2. Group Name and Location

    Know the Server Name (Shared Group) or Location (Individual) and the Group Name for the implementation.

  3. Understand the Implementation

    Your DriveWorks administrator will assist with any specifics about running the implementation and how all outputs are generated.
