DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure

The DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure allows DriveWorks to connect to Microsoft Azure and use Microsoft Azure features.

The PowerPack allows management and interaction with Azure services, including Virtual Machines and Storage Accounts.

Prerequisites

DriveWorks 20.2 and newer is required for this PowerPack.

The PowerPack is required to be installed and set up on each machine that has access to the Project(s) that integrate with Microsoft Azure.

Installation

DriveWorks and SOLIDWORKS should be closed while installing the plugin.

Double click the DriveWorks-PowerPack-For-Microsoft-Azure-[version number].msi file to begin the installation process.

Once installed the plugin is automatically loaded in DriveWorks.

Uninstall

The plugin is uninstalled from Windows Programs and Features, and will be listed as DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure [version number].

DriveWorks should be closed and restarted once the plugin has been uninstalled to remove it from the plugin list in the DriveWorks Plugin Settings.

Set Up

A Microsoft Azure account is required to use this PowerPack.

Once installed the DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure will be listed in the Plugin Settings.

To allow the Functions and Tasks to operate the PowerPack must authenticate with a Microsoft Azure tenant

If the PowerPack is not authenticated with Microsoft Azure or does not have correct permissions to authenticate, an error will occur when testing settings and attempting to use the Functions and Tasks.

To configure the DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure Plugin Settings:

  1. Select the DriveWorks PowerPack for Microsoft Azure from the Application Plugins section of the Plugin Settings dialog.
  2. Click the Settings button at the bottom of the Plugin Settings dialog.

Settings

Tenant/Directory ID

To obtain the Tenant/Directory ID from Microsoft Azure:

  1. Navigate to the Azure Active Directory (AAD) in the Azure Portal.
  2. The Tenant ID will be shown in the Basic information section of the Overview screen.
  3. Copy the Tenant ID from the Azure Portal and enter it into the Tenant/Directory ID field.

Subscription ID

To obtain the Subscription ID from Microsoft Azure:

  1. Navigate to Subscriptions in the Azure Portal.
  2. Select the Subscription to be used.
  3. The Subscription ID will be shown in the Essentials section of the Overview screen.
  4. Copy the Subscription ID from the Azure Portal and enter it into the Subscription ID field.

Application (Client) ID and Application (Client) Secret

To obtain the Application (Client) ID and Application (Client) Secret from Azure:

  1. Navigate to the Azure Active Directory (AAD) in the Azure Portal.
  2. Go to App Registrations under the Manage section.
  3. Navigate to the App that DriveWorks Administrator will be set up under.
  4. Navigate to Certificates and Secrets under the Manage section.
  5. Click the New Client Secret under the Clients Secret section.
  6. Add a description for the Client Secret and an expiration date.

    There will be a brief moment where the Client Secret key will be viewable before being encrypted.

    Make a note of this key.

  7. Copy the Application (Client) ID and Application (Client) Secret from the Azure Portal and enter them into the respective fields.

Test Connection and Save

Once the above settings have been applied, click the Test Connection button to verify the application can successfully authenticate.

If the credentials cannot authenticate, Microsoft Azure will send back a response with the issue detected.

Click the Save button to save the settings.

Clear

To reset the settings, to the default blank values, click the Clear button.
