How To: Rename A Group

This document provides information on how to rename an Individual or Shared Group.

It is highly recommended that a backup be taken of any data that is being renamed so that it can be restored to its original state in the event of any issues that could occur while renaming.

Backup the Data

When renaming a DriveWorks Group it is essential a backup is taken to ensure the data can be restored if needed. See How To: Backup an Individual Group for Individual Groups and How To: Backup a SQL Server Database for Shared Groups.

Renaming an Individual Group

To rename an Individual Group:

  1. Ensure all DriveWorks applications (and SOLIDWORKS) are closed.
  2. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the individual Group files location.
  3. Rename the Individual Group to the new name for the Group.
  4. Launch DriveWorks Administrator and log onto the renamed Group.
Update Recent List

To remove the reference to the old Group in the Recent List

  1. Click DriveWorks Today from the task list.
  2. Right click the recent list reference.
  3. Select Remove from list.

Renaming a Shared Group

To rename a Shared Group:

  1. Ensure all DriveWorks applications (and SOLIDWORKS) are closed.
  2. Launch DriveWorks Pro Server and navigate to the Pro Server tab.
  3. Ensure the Pro Server Service is not running. If it is click the Stop Service button.
  4. Open SQL Server Management Studio and connect to your server.
  5. Expand the Databases tab and locate the database which is your shared group that you want to rename.
  6. Right click on the Database and select rename.
  7. Rename the Group and exit SQL Server Management Studio.
  8. Go back into Pro Server and restart the service in the Pro Server tab.
  9. In the Groups tab refresh the data to see your renamed group.
  10. Launch DriveWorks Administrator and go to Open group and select the shared group option.
  11. Select your server and the renamed shared group, click open.
Update Recent List

To remove the reference to the old Group in the Recent List

  1. Click DriveWorks Today from the task list.
  2. Right click the recent list reference.
  3. Select Remove from list.
