Getting Started with DriveWorks Administrator - From New

This guide is intended for those installing and running DriveWorks Pro Administrator on a machine that has never had a DriveWorks Pro module installed before.

Whether implementing a Design Automation, CPQ or Online 3D Sales Configurator solution DriveWorks Administrator is required to begin.

This module is where you set up and manage your Automation projects. Therefore this guide will focus on getting started with DriveWorks Pro Administrator.

The process typically takes the following steps:

  1. Determine on which machine DriveWorks Pro Administrator is to be installed.
  2. Install DriveWorks Pro Administrator.
  3. Launch DriveWorks Pro Administrator and activate the license.
  4. Start using DriveWorks Pro Administrator. to build:

Knowing this upfront will save having to return activated licenses and re-install on another machine.

The required results of your Automation project will govern where DriveWorks Pro Administrator is installed. The following needs to be considered:

  • Automating the creation of Microsoft Office documents will require Microsoft Office to be installed on the same machine as DriveWorks Pro Administrator.
  • Automating SOLIDWORKS models and drawings will require SOLIDWORKS to be installed on the same machine as DriveWorks Pro Administrator.
  • Connecting to database data will require a reliable network connection and appropriate permissions applying to the data source. Connecting using a DSN will require the appropriate ODBC drivers installing on each machine connection is required from.

Network (Floating) License

If you have purchased a Network (Floating) License the DriveWorks License Manager should be installed on a machine that will be the License Server.

*This only applies to the DriveWorks Administrator and DriveWorks User modules.

This can be determined from the license code you have.

Where [XX] denotes the major version number of the product.

If the first three letters of the second block of characters start with FLT the license is activated on the machine hosting the DriveWorks License Manager. For more information about your license code please refer to the topic Info: Identifying Activation Codes.

DriveWorks Groups

A stand alone seat of DriveWorks Pro Administrator with Ind Group or Shared Group see Pro Server if using shared group also Info: Individual and Shared Groups.

Pre-requisites

Before attempting to install it is advisable to check the specification of the machine meets the minimum requirements for hardware and software.

2. Install the DriveWorks Pro module.

All DriveWorks Pro modules are installed from a single file:

  • InstallDriveWorksPro-Release-VXX-SPX-XXX.exe

Where [XX], [X] and [XXX] denote the major version, service pack and build number of the release.

The installation file can be downloaded from the DriveWorks Community website.

The installation process automatically detects the system type and installs the appropriate components based on if your system is 32 or 64 bit.

3. Launch the installed DriveWorks Pro module and activate the license.

When installation is complete the module can be launched and licensed.

Check Your License Type!

Before launching the DriveWorks Pro module check if you have a Network* (Floating) license.

*This only applies to the DriveWorks Administrator and DriveWorks User modules.

This can be determined from the license code you have.

The Licensing Wizard appears as soon as a module that requires licensing is launched.

Once the product license has been successfully licensed the Licensing Wizard will not appear again until the license is returned.

With the module launched and the Licensing Wizard displayed choose the License Type:

  • Use a product code - Select this option if you have a fixed license, there are two methods of activating a fixed license:
    • Automatic Activation - Use when the machine requiring activation of the DriveWorks Pro module is connected to the internet.
    • Manual Activation - Use when the machine requiring activation of the DriveWorks Pro module is not connected to the internet.
  • Or

  • Connect to a license server if you have purchased floating licenses - Please see the topic Connecting To A Network License.
